  • A VARIETY OF COMPONENTS

    Our Trainees have 7 components of vocational training opportunities to participate in. Art, Catering, Cleaning, Maintainance, Physical Activities, Water on Wheels.

  • SUPPORTS TRAINEES

    These 7 components support trainees to learn, grow, and develope the skills they need for greater independence in their lives and help them integrate into the community.

  • CLASS COMPONENTS

    Three of these seven vocational training components offer classes for our trainees to enjoy & learn something knew. In Art, Physical Activity, & Basic Skills Cooking Class. See below for the descriptions.

Training Program Goals

We have specific goals for our trainees participating in The Community Integration Training Program to help them have fun and learn new skills.

  • TO PRACTICE NEW SKILLS

    To ensure a safe and inclusive place where people can practice new skills.

  • PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH

    To promote the mental health and well-being of those who participate in our programs thrugh enriching activities.

  • TO BROADEN NETWORK OF SUPPORT

    To broaden their network of support and to expand their inclusion in the communities where they live.

HOW TO SIGN UP

Details about signing up for classes.

  • Vocations & Classes are by appointment only.

  • To schedule, please call 669-272-8548 at least 24 hrs before the class starts.

  • Please sign up for the Art class 1 week in advance, so that an art kit will be available.

  • The Indoor Art Class is held at Summit Community Center: 2125 Canoas Garden Ave, Suite 120

  • Location and details will be confirmed once appointments are finalized

  • All participants should be accompanied by assigned staff

  • PLEASE NOTE: Class/Vocation details and location are always subject to change

Physical Crew 

These classes we call "Physical Crew" offer a variety of activities throughout the week that promotes a healthy lifestyle. 

Mondays: The group host walking club at a variety of locations (parks/trails) in the community.  Staff and participants have a chance to socialize, bond, and get healthy together while walking.  For every 18 miles achieved a $5 gift card is earned to either Jamba Juice and/or Subway.  

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: A sporting class is offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  These classes are for the participants to learn a specific sport such as football, basketball, dodgeball, and ultimate frisbee. These classes cover the rules and regulations (modified if needed), adaptive skills training, how to play safe, and scrimmageing. 

Thursdays: Are game days where the program comes together and puts what they learned during the week into action by playing a friendly exhibition.

Room for Art

This class "Room for Art" offers a space for trainees to express themselves creatively and artistically.

 Vocational opportunities available are art kit production, inventory, budgeting, and event planning/decoration. 

Enrichment opportunities are offered through activities such as painting, projects, guided journaling, and sketching. 

We also complete seasonal projects such as tree decoration for Christmas in the park through the city of San Jose.  They host an annual art in the Park event where the community comes out for a fun day of art, food, and games.  They are also responsible for the company decorations at the office and the community center. 

Come and express yourself through Art Therapy, a space where we encourage creativitiy, and offer a form of stress management.

The Catering Crew

The Catering Crew is responsible for lunch preperation for the day program.  

Monday through Wednesday a cold lunch is offered including things such as cold sandwiches like PB&J and clubs, hot sandwiches like hot dogs and tuna menlts, and variety of salads.  

Thursdays are reserved for hot lunch.  Hot lunches are made once a week and require a bit more time and complexity.  Items on the hot lunch menu are things such as Italian and Mexican cruisines, BBQ, chili cheese dogs, and bacon cheeseburgers. On special occasions trainees receive a catered lunch from a restaurant. The Catering Crew offers a cooking class every Tuesday afternoon that teaches adaptive skills as well as offers healthy recipes that are tangible for anyone to take home and replicate at their discretion. Particiapnts learn things like how to make apple cookies, fruit salad/kabobs, smoothies, ants on a log and much more, cold and hot lunch.

The Water On Wheels Crew

Water On Wheels Crew, we call W.O.W, is the water delivery service for Summit. They are responsible for the sanitization, maintenance, and filling of the water jugs. They service the SLS Community, The Community Center, and the Office. 

They do weekly checks making sure the water qualitites and levels are adequate for consumption in both the commercial and residential entities they serve.

The Cleaning Crew

The Cleaning Crew is a vocational component responsible for the sanitation and monthly deep cleaning of the common spaces in the SLS Community.

This group goes into the homes and sanitizes the kitchen area, the living room, dining room, and cleaning and sweeping, mopping, and cleaning windows.

We also make sure that the homes are equipped with all cleaning equipment needed to maintain the home.

The Landscaping Crew

The Landscaping Crew is a vocational component responsible for the beautification and curb appeal of home in the SLS Community.

The Landscaping Crew completes 2 types of service: 

  1. A Full Service Treatment and
  2. An Upkeep Treatment.

The Full-Service Treatment:

Consists of mowing the lawn, trimming/cutting bushes and trees, blowing excess debris from the front and backyards. Fininshing with picking up leaves and debri.

The Upkeep Treatment:

Is a maintenance service where we sweep and pick up debri from grass, trees, and bushes that have compiled before the next full service and check the irrigation system to ensure lawns can be watered and kept up by the SLS team.
